Potted<\/p>\n
Shock-blonde, lick-slicked and collared
\nI stick upright, aloof from the cool blues,
\nturps-headed and drying out.<\/p>\n
Having swollen for corn, skin, straw,
\nstarlight, a chair, some tables,
\ntheir light-pools turning in<\/p>\n
and crying out of vases
\nof summer-sunned flowers
\nspring songs from iris’ throats –<\/p>\n
Then cadmium thumbed from my scalp,
\nmy oily strands stripped bare –
\nsoused, rinsed, up-ended, old and new,<\/p>\n
Awaiting the next parcel from Paris,
\nthe unquivering true hand
\nto dance me laughing on the sky itself<\/p>\n
Or drag my hair across despairing fields,
\nbrushing against the verges of the path
\nthat leads to carmine on burnt umber.<\/p>\n
