Than these November skies
\nIs no sky lovelier. The clouds are deep;
\nInto their grey the subtle spies
\nOf colour creep.
\nChanging that high austerity to delight,
\nTil ev’n the leaden interfolds are bright.
\nAnd, where the cloud breaks, faint far azure peers
\nEre a thin flushing cloud again
\nShuts up that loveliness, or shares.
\nThe huge great clouds move slowly, gently, as
\nReluctant the quick sun could shine in vain,
\nHolding in bright caprice their rain.
\nAnd when of colours none,
\nNot rose, nor amber, nor the scarce late green,
\nIs truly seen, –
\nIn all the myriad grey,
\nIn silver height and dusky deep, remain
\nThe loveliest,
\nFaint purple flushes of the unvanquished sun.<\/p>\n
