I remember footfall to London
\nOn those bitter mornings
\nHolding each other up on ice
\nThen quiet sighs when the train was in.
\nSitting together and whispering
\nTil Blackfriars and the river’s
\nCold wind made the eyes weep.<\/p>\n
I remember your Sheffield smile
\nShining across the room at me
\nAnd the hugs we shared, eager
\nTo sit and chew the news while
\nThe men brought drinks and journey talk.
\nWalking together into the city
\nUmbrellas hiding the crying sky.<\/p>\n
I remember how it was…
\nYour smile opened the door
\nYour smile made the coffee
\nYour smile snuggled into your chair
\nAnd your smile said good morning.
\nYour smile gave me flowers
\nAnd frowned ‘Take care of yourself.’<\/p>\n
I remember the hospital
\nHow much at home you were
\nDrinking our cappuccinos or
\nWatching at the bedside and
\nHow hard it was to leave and
\nFind our way back through Chelsea
\nFreezing in St. Albans for the bus.<\/p>\n
Watching our children grow
\nWatching fields fill with snow
\nWatching Coronation Street
\nAnd watching you fall ill.
\nElla shouting at my laptop
\nCos you were far away
\nBut near enough to answer her.<\/p>\n
The sacred moment when I kissed her
