\nthe Pain in your Eyes
\nand in your Friends’ Faces.
\nBut Kindness walks with me.
\nSweet Nurses and the Sad
\nConsultant who couldn’t
\nmeet my face to tell me and
\nthe Wise Nurse who whispered
\n‘She’s watchng you.’<\/p>\n
Holly-gathering in snow
\nwe sank to our knees
\nand blew on our nails.
\nFixing the swing and
\nrocking a cuppa.
\nListening to choughs as
\nwe smelled peat bogs burn.
\nSunrise from your window,
\nEvening calls on your drive home
\nand your little hand in
\nseed trays or stringing night-time
\nlights amidst Sweet Peas and
\nMorning Glories, in blue pots.
\nMuj on the bench
\nin the sun
\nand You on the bench
\nin the sun.
\nDoor open, kettle on,
\nlaptop on, washing on.
\nTickets for gigs,
\nEmbroidery threads,
\nReading glasses and books,
\nCamera and paintings.
\nDuvet cover and carpet lover
\nSecondhand rose and loving Carer.
\nFatherless Child of mine
\nin Sweden jacket and red shoes
\ndancing the night away
\nin the hills.
\nBrown-eyed girl, I have never felt
\nso comforted, just stepping out
\nfrom Raja’s room.
\nInto his view, into our hills and
\nlistening to the peace of
\na summer’s morning with
\nschoolchildren’s voices on the air,
\nwhile blackberries ripen and
\nblackbirds and larks sing
